The Rijksmuseum Gardens.

The Rijksmuseum Gardens.

These were gardens that surrounded the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam that I visited in August time.

The British sculpture Barbra Hemsworth (1903-1975) has her artwork throughout the gardens surrounding the buildings, always creating a central position, that overpowers the place in a way that's so fascinating.

Her work often represents "The connection between man and landscape and the awareness that we are a part of a greater whole within the universe." - referenced from a signpost explaining the gardens in Amsterdam.

These sculptures were part of another nine art pieces around the site that represented generations of a family.

The resemblance within each of the sculptures was the hole in the square block. its portraying the traits that are carried through generations of families. I think that this is really interesting way to portray the generational change, though in theory we are different people, we carry attributes and traits that represent our family members so clearly.

The first structures you see are in the front garden and they're designed as a three. It makes it visually balanced and easy to read. As they're on a grass patch that is above ground level, you're looking upwards creating a sense of hierarchy to the statues. The composition changes Aswell as you move through the site as you're looking at it from different angles. I love that you can fully circulate round these as you get a 360 image of how it looks, all with a different background.

I really love these abstract statues. The materiality is a blue and grey it shows wear which I think also compliments the tyle of the features.

This was the desig of two people in movement. I love the planting around this sculpture the most, the wild whispy flowers really create a contrast to the dark, strong sculptures.

These wre a few other abstract sculpters that are perfectly crafted into the landscpe.

a constant water feature was situated in the back gardens. This was really incredible to be able to sit on a bench and be able to sit and watch how people use the feature. It would turn off different sections at each time so you were able to entre the middle, and watch this water dance. Peiple loved it! even the spectators that were able to sit on the benches loved the water feature, and observed how much joy and playfyullness it was giving people. It really madfe a lively atmosphere to an area that i felt was quite quaint and mindfull.

There was alos a really dtynamic part to this park where a school had set up temporary art stands with paper and people were allowed to draw on them. Everyone was invited to do so, aswell as walk through them and spectate.
It was actually incrfedible to see this real life landscaoe in person where it would actually connect you to a place.

You were abke to watch peopel observe the landscape, draw these beautiful drawrings, and also see everyone elses reactions to some of the art. It was temporary but had sucvh an impact to this section of the park, it was really buzzing with energy, and made me feel so excited.
