In-situ concrete

laying concrete over the summer has helped me begin to understand the process, needs and effort that goes into laying concrete.

it came in about 5 loads and was poured in between existing concrete and runners. These had to be wet just before the concrete was poured as it prevented the concrete from drying too quickly arround the edges which would cause cracking.

When pouring the concrete you were able to see the components that made it up. There was a fair bit of glass fiber which was interesting to see how it combined and the strength that it gave the concrete.

The finish we used was a brushed finish. Unfortunatly the weather that day was not on our side and began heavy raning just as we started to apply a brush finish. This meant it was at risk of having a really dusty finish due to the water collecting on the surface.

We managed  to cover the concrete and allow the storm to pass. We continually brushed the surface to try to create a rough grip that was needed due to a sloped surface and heavy vehicles that would be crossing over.

after a few hours we were able to cut the concrete to allow movement in the concrete as it dried fully and retracted as the water dried.
